Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik has been found guilty in the terror funding case. NIA court has found Yasin Malik guilty, the decision for the punishment tenure will be decided on the 25th of May. Yasin Malik himself had admitted in the past that he was involved in terrorist activities in Kashmir. There were reports this month that Yasin Malik had admitted that he was involved in the terrorist activities, had also hatched a criminal conspiracy, and was charged with sedition are also correct. He had also accepted the sections imposed on him under UAPA.
The NIA has also asked for an affidavit regarding the financial assessment to be submitted. Special Judge Praveen Singh directed the NIA authorities to Malik’s financial situation to determine the amount of fine to be imposed on him and posted the matter for arguments on the quantum of sentence on May 25.
Malik had told the court that he was not contesting the charges leveled against him, which included Section 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), and 20 (being member of terrorist gang or organization) of the UAPA and Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
Malik has been charged with hatching a criminal conspiracy, waging war against the country, other lawful activities, and disturbing peace in Kashmir in the name of ‘Freedom Struggle’.
The court had also framed the charges against other Kashmiri separatists, including Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate, Shabbir Shah, Masarat Alam, Md Yusuf Shah, Aftab Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Khan, Md Akbar Khanday, Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, and Naval Kishore Kapoor. The charge sheet was also filed against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, who have been declared proclaimed offenders in the case.
In the sections in which a case is registered against Yasin, he can get the maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Yasin Malik has been active in the politics of Kashmir. He is considered an important hand in instigating the youth. Yasin Malik is associated with the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). In 2019, the central government banned JKLF. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. Yasin Malik is accused of killing 4 Air Force personnel in 1990, which he admitted. He is accused of kidnapping Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s daughter Rubia Saeed.
