Hours after Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled his official residence in Colombo before thousands of agitators broke into the compound, some of the agitators were spotted taking a swim in the pool.
While some protesters were spotted shouting slogans, others were seen making videos.
The president was escorted to a safe location before demonstrators from across the country arrived in buses, trains, and trucks to express outrage over the government’s failure to protect them from economic ruin. Protesters shouted “Gota go home,” using a common shortened version of the president’s name.
Police resorted to firing tear gasoline shells to maintain the state of affairs beneath management. At least 21 folks, together with two policemen, had been injured in the protests.
Sri Lanka has been reeling beneath an extreme financial disaster for months now due to results of badly-timed tax sops, poor investments in initiatives, and Covid-induced restrictions. People have been demanding the President’s resignation since March.
