When it comes to Maharastra, Bal Thackery is the first thing on the minds of people. When we talk about Bala Saheb Thackery Shive Sena can not be separated, but what led to the downfall of the successor Uddav Thackery from the Shiv Sena and MLC. It was an emotional moment for Uddav Thackery when he steps down from the post of chief minister of Maharastra and resigns from MLC.
After nine days of intense political turmoil, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharastra collapsed late Wednesday evening. Uddhav Thackery resigned from the post of chief minister of the three-party Shiv Sena- NCP- Congress(MVA) coalition minutes after the supreme court ruled that the floor test will go ahead on Thursday as well in the Maharastra assembly. The Team Thackeray, shrinking to 15-odd MLAs following Mr. Shinde’s rebellion, had asked the court to stop the floor test.
“We got emotional yesterday when Uddhav Thackeray resigned as chief minister. Everyone has faith in Uddhav Thackeray. People of every caste and religion support him. Sonia Gandhi and Sharad Pawar trust him,” Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told reporters on Thursday morning.
“Shiv Sena is not born for power, power is born for Shiv Sena. This has always been Balasaheb Thackeray’s mantra. We will work and come to power on our own once again,” Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told reporters on Thursday morning.
Governor B S Koshyari will soon invite the leader of the opposition, BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis for the formation of the new government. Fadnavis will return for his third term as CM. While Shiv Sena’s rebel leader Eknath Shinde who walked with 39 out of the party’s 55 MLAs, will be the deputy CM. If sources are to be believed at least a dozen of Shinde’s supporters are likely to be accommodated in the Fadnavis cabinet.
The BJP is now the single largest party in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. “The next steps will be decided by Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde,” state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said.
Fadnavis told to news agencies, “We are in the process of staking a claim for formation of the government. It may take another 2-3 days to complete the formalities.”With Mr. Thackeray’s resignation, the floor test is now void. The BJPs Devendra Fadnavis is likely to stake claim to form a government, with Mr. Shinde as his deputy, sources have said.
The BJP, which is expected to stake claim to form the next government in Maharashtra soon following the resignation of Uddhav Thackeray as the chief minister, will be holding a series of meetings in Maharashtra on Thursday to decide the future course of action, where the party’s state in-charge CT Ravi will remain present, as per a report which cites sources.
Ravi, who arrived in Mumbai on Thursday morning, will attend a meeting at ‘Sagar’ bungalow, the official residence of Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis with senior party leaders.
In his last move before resigning as chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday evening approved the renaming of Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv, in an assertion of the Sena’s Maratha-Hindutva ideology.
Sambhaji was the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Maratha king after whom the party is named. He was killed on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who gave Aurangabad its name in the 17th century. Osmanabad, named after Hyderabad’s last ruler Mir Osman Ali Khan, derives its new name, Dharashiv, from sixth-century caves near the city.
If the rebels insist on being recognized as Shiv Sena (Balasaheb), they would have to face legal hurdles. Under the anti-defection law, MLAs can be disqualified for dishonoring their party’s whip. When the BJP forms a government and appears for a floor test, they would most likely be disqualified should they choose to vote for the JP Nadda-led party. Then they would have to face bypolls in the next 6 months if the BJP fields them as its candidates.
The Election Commission would decide which faction is the real Shiv Sena. The poll body takes many factors into account before awarding the recognition, including the support of MLAs, MPs, corporators, and party office bearers. Though Shinde has the support of MLAs and some MPs, Thackeray reportedly has the backing of grassroots workers and office-bearers. The panel can also assign two different symbols to the two factions until the issue is not resolved.
