Two terrorists were killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora on Tuesday morning. Kashmir Zone Police said that two terrorists were killed in the encounter. Weapons have also been recovered from the slain terrorists. The search operation is still on. The terrorists killed belonged to the Jaish- e- Muhammad terrorists, amongst them was the killer of Reyaz Ahmad. The encounter lasted overnight between the security forces and the terrorists.
According to the police, an encounter started between security forces and terrorists in the Rajpora area of Awantipora on Monday evening. This terrorist was involved in many murders. Giving information, Inspector General of Police (IG) Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that Shahid was involved in the murder of a woman named Shakeela of Aripal and Javid Ahmed, a government employee of Lurgam Tral.
On Sunday (yesterday), police said “at about 1745hrs, on a specific input generated by Kulgam Police regarding the presence of terrorists in village Gundipora area of Pulwama, a joint cordon & search operation was launched by Pulwama Police, Army (55RR) and CRPF (182/183Bn) in the said area.”
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists hidden in the residential house of Nazir Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Sultan Mir fired indiscriminately upon search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” Police said.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar congratulated the joint forces for carrying out the anti-terrorist operation in a professional manner without any collateral damage. He also appreciated the joint team for tracking & neutralizing the terrorists involved in the recent killing of policemen in Pulwama.

In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and an investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at the encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials.
