This year’s first solar eclipse is around the corner. A solar eclipse is a celestial event that happens when the moon comes in between the orbit of the Sun and the Earth. During this event, the moon covers the sun completely, which blocks the sun’s rays from reaching the earth. There will be a partial Solar Eclipse on April 30th and a Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible on May 16th. The irony is that none of the two celestial phenomena will be visible in India. The Partial solar eclipse of April 30th will be seen from the south and southwestern parts of South America, the Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans, and most of the landmasses of Antarctica. This information was given by the former director of M P Birla Planetarium.
Interestingly, eclipses are astronomical events, but as per the Indian culture, it is believed that Surya Grahan has mythological and astrological relevance. Eclipse has an impact on everything, right from the environment to the fate of individuals. There are several do’s and don’t that have been traditionally followed. However, this year the Grahan will not be visible in India, but on the 30th of April, the solar eclipse will be live-streamed on NASA’s YouTube channel.
The Partial Solar Eclipse will begin around 12:15 am on May 1, 2022. In India, it will be around 2:11 am at the maximum and end at 4.07 am on May 1st. The event is also coinciding with the ‘black moon’ sighting. The solar eclipse will be coinciding with the black moon this time, which is a name given to various new moons or absences of them, within a year. For space enthusiasts, the solar eclipse will be telecasted on several online portals and websites.
Lunar Eclipse:
A lunar eclipse occurs on a full moon night when the cosmic satellite passes through the shadow of the Earth. The Lunar Eclipse will take place during the daytime on May 16th, 2022. It will start at 7.02 am and the total eclipse will begin at around 7.57 am. The maximum eclipse will take place around 9.41 am when the Moon is at the deepest part of Earth’s shadow. The total eclipse will end at 10.23 am. The partial phase will end by 11.25 am.
Places where the total or the partial phase of the eclipse will be seen in southern and western parts of Europe and Asia, Africa, large parts of North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Ocean Regions, and part of Antarctica.
Solar Eclipse:
A solar eclipse occurs on a new moon day when the sun comes between the Earth and the Sun. The sun then either totally or partially blocks the sun from the Earth for some time.
The next Partial Solar Eclipse will take place on October 25th and the Lunar eclipse will take place on November 8th. This time both will be visible from India.
