The favorite food delivery apps Zomato and Swiggy reported a nationwide outrage on Wednesday due to some technical glitch by the Amazon web Services on which the online platform depends. Both the apps are the fastest growing app in the market which combines 95%of shares. The social media is flooded with complaint messages by the user who reported inconvenience in placing orders or browsing menus which were taken care of and answered by customer support.
The competition commission of India has said that both Swiggy and Zomato are being investigated for alleged unfair business practices. The order for an investigation came months after a complaint was filed by the national restaurant Association of India(NRAI). The firm denied the allegation when a complaint was filed by NRAI to the Competition Commission of India CCI in July last year. The NRAI comprises over 500,000 restaurants across the country and has asked the CCI to investigate the two companies for allegedly providing priority to some eateries.
The association has alleged that the two firms provide discounts after charging exorbitant commissions from the restaurants. The CCI said the companies’ agreements with restaurants could create entry barriers for new platforms, without accruing any benefits to the consumers.
