The 90 ml pack become expensive in the state. According to a source, the price of the 90 ml pack (small pack) of English liquor is increased by Rs 10 to Rs 40. This has happened because of the special additional charge being levied.
Earlier in May, the Telangana government hiked the liquor prices. The Telangana government has increased the liquor prices by 20 to 25 percent to mop up revenues. When the state was facing a severe funds crunch due to the market borrowings being halted and loans to come by, the TRS government increased the liquor prices to mop up the revenue. The prices of all the liquor brands were increased. The government is hoping to increase its tax revenue to Rs 15,000 crore. The prices have gone up by a minimum of 10 percent over and above the previous rates. An increase of Rs 20 was done on all bottles of Beer.
The liquor prices have been hiked for the first time since liquor policy 2021-23 came into effect. Liquor prices were last hiked in the state in May 2020 soon after the first phase of the Covid-19 lockdown.
This is the latest in a series of measures taken by the state government to mop its revenues. It recently hiked the market value of lands, property registration charges, bus fares, and electricity charges.
