Days before its theatrical release on the auspicious occasion of the festival marking the bond between siblings, Akshay Kumar’s much-speculated drama film ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is now facing irks from social media users.
The backlash is over the film writer of the project, Kanika Dhillon’s old tweets wherein she can be seen using derogatory remarks on certain Hindu values and customs. Netizens cite the reason for their anger, arguing that the writer in question Dhillon makes money off the Hindu community, and then mocks the very same communities symbols and beliefs with utter shame.

As apparent from the various tweets by the writer, apart from being a strong critic of Prime Minister Modi and his government, she has made several Hinduphobic remarks including ‘gaumata jibe’. “Hmm, you think one day the cows of India will also be contesting elections? Since they offer more solutions- benefits and protection than our Ministers! Holy cow! Jai Gaiyaa Mayya ki!”, she wrote in another tweet.

Gau mata ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan! #lynchistan! GauMata is horrified N tired! She wants 2 migrate 2 U.S n willing 2 tolerate TRUMP! As long as HINDUSTAN can restore its PEACE, COMMON SENSE n HUMANITY! Modi ke #NewIndia ki गाय[email protected] https://t.co/G6ciMZvMMi

With the movie’s music album already being a fan favorite and the trailer building great anticipation amongst the audience and of course, it is an Akshay Kumar film, the movie has already ticked off the golden trifecta and it seems like the film might be received well at the box office.
Recently, in an interview with a leading daily, Akshay Kumar said while speaking about his role in the upcoming film Raksha Bandhan, “I had a lot of fun playing my role in Raksha Bandhan. It is a character that belongs to a middle-class family embroiled in everyday middle-class problems trying to make ends meet and having the responsibility of getting his four sisters married.”

When asked how his role and the movie, in general, is unique from the ones he’s done before, he says, “I’ve essayed many roles in my career, strangely I haven’t worked in a film which focuses on this special brother-sister bond, something which is so relatable and universal. Actually, I don’t think we have many such films in our industry. So, in that sense, I got to try something new.”
Raksha Bandhan featuring Bhumi Pednekar, Akshay Kumar, Neeraj Sood, Seema Pahwa, Sadia Khateeb, Abhilash Thapliyal, Deepika Khanna, Smrithi Srikanth and Sahejmeen Kaur is all set to release on August 11 2022.
