Chief Minister Kejriwal’s remark on Kashmir files led to the dramatic scenes outside his residence on Wednesday. Nearly 200 protestors from the opposition BJP’s youth wing, Bhartiya Janta Party Yuva Morcha[BJYM] broke through police barricades, slammed the main gate, and prompted AAP for accusing them of “ trying to kill” the CM. BJYM national president and Lok Sabha MP Tejaswi Surya led the protestors as seen in the captured CCTV footage. Mr.Surya broke the bamboo barrier, kicking, and banging the main gate, and even threw red paint on the gate. DCP[north] Sagar Singh Kalsi claims that CCTV cameras were also damaged.
Kalsi assures that an FIR has been registered regarding the “unidentified persons” and teams have been formed to grab the accused. Late night on Wednesday police has arrested five men across Delhi in connection with the vandalism.
Kejriwal was not present at the time of the attack by the protestors say AAP leaders, only his family members were present.
“The BJP failed to defeat Kejriwal and stop him so they are trying to eliminate him. They are trying to kill him. The attack on his residence was a planned conspiracy to kill him, the country will not tolerate this criminal offense. After their[BJP] defeat in Punjab, they are rattled.” Says Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted that some anti-social elements attacked CM Kejriwal’s house. AAP later released its ‘raw CCTV footage’. The 35-second clip doesn’t have audio, but it does show about two dozen men climbing up to the gates and tearing down a security barrier in the process.
However, in the meantime, a lone security officer outside the gate is seen trying to release them but when it becomes clear that they are outnumbered, he backs down. But after a few moments, this protesting group slowly leaves the scene. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday claimed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house was ‘attacked by BJP goons’.
Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, said activists and leaders of the BJYUNO organization staged a protest near Kejriwal’s residence but did not vandalize it. He said that we were stopped by the police and around 20-25 of our members and leaders including Tejashwi Surya was detained and taken to a police station, however, they were later released.
Here, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) chief Tejashwi Surya said in a press conference that the protests against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will continue till he unconditionally stops “mocking” Kashmiri Pandits in the Delhi Assembly. Don’t apologize. He further said that “we protested the way Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal made fun of the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits (in the assembly). We demand an unconditional apology from him and our protest will continue till he apologizes.
At the same time, Delhi Police has issued a statement saying ‘Around 1 in the afternoon, some protesters broke two barricades and reached the Chief Minister’s house where they created a ruckus, raised slogans. Delhi Police said the police said they took immediate action to clear the protesters and detained around 70 people. DCP (Delhi North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that legal action is being taken.
