Word spread of his dedication to his job at the Las Vegas Airport branch of the burger chain when a viral video showed him being gifted a movie ticket, a bag of candy, a coffee tumbler, a lanyard, and some pens as a thank-you gift.
Those watching the video felt that Ford deserved far more. ‘I was grateful for anything. There are people I have worked with for 20 or 30 years and they didn’t get anything. I am happy with anything,’ Ford.’I am grateful and happy. I am just thankful that I got that,’ he said referring to the items he received. ‘There are people working hard and they didn’t get anything.
Kevin Ford went viral online after he showed his small bag of gifts that he received from HMS Host, the company from which Burger King hires staff. The employee who worked at the Burger King Las Vegas airport branch said that he felt like the company had sent him stuff that “they had lying around.”
Kevin Ford revealed that employees received cheques to work with the company for 20 years, so he was convinced that it was what he would receive. However, he ended up receiving only one movie ticket.
Speaking of the now $157,000 donations received from 4,700 people in recent days, Ford was overcome with emotion. He said that he was unable to explain how he had never missed a shift in his 27 years of work. The outpouring of support astonished the family, with the fundraising now surpassing $157,000 since Tuesday. One of the many donors includes celebrity comedian David Spade, who donated $5,000 and had a private Instagram exchange with the BK worker. ‘Keep up the good work. 27 years,’ Spade wrote to Ford. The actor took to a GoFundMe fundraising campaign, which was created by Ford’s daughter.
Ford went viral earlier this week for posting a video praising Burger King for gifting him a single movie ticket, a bag of Reese’s Pieces, a Starbucks cup, some Lifesavers, a lanyard, two pens, and a few keychains for his hard work at the company.
The GoFundMe was created by Seryna Ford to ensure that her father Kevin Ford gets the retirement gift he deserves. At the time of writing this article, the fundraiser has amassed $41,101. Over 1,000 donations were made to the campaign.
